A Strategy Unit focuses students on one comprehension strategy for approximately three weeks. There are eight units per grade, one for each of the eight comprehension strategies—self-monitoring, analyzing, sequencing, making connections, predicting, inferring, evaluating, and synthesizing. Each strategy unit guide outlines how to introduce and model the reading comprehension strategy with a read aloud and how to carry on the focus with explicit instruction in shared reading.
