Power down
Too often, we let stereotypes and labels govern our expectations of success, competency, and reality. We let those labels lower our expectations of what we might achieve. Somewhere down the line, disability became synonymous with inability. I was prescribed a wheelchair at the age of 11 and from that point on, people stopped expecting much from me.
As a person with a disability, I wasn’t expected to have a career. I might have a menial job at best, and maybe nothing at all.

Or power up
Expectations can be felt as pressure, sure, but that pressure can push you up. Without expectations, think how much more difficult it is to put yourself through years of post-secondary education, find part-time jobs to finance your studies, and work hard to get the best grades you can achieve.
