When She Hollers
by Cynthia Voigt

STOP

He's pushed her. Forced her. And now Tish wants out. Wants him to stop hurting her. Wants to know that someone will believe her — and care.

He tells her no one will believe her. And maybe he's right. She's always been the strange one, the loner. That's when she decides to get the knife. To protect herself. To let him know that she won't ever let him hurt her again.

"This groundbreaking book - like its protagonist - is raw, courageous, and a winner."
SLJ, starred review

"Searing... by tackling the subject of abuse, Voigt takes no short cuts. An exceptional offering."
Publishers Weekly, starred review

"Powerful... this novel holds the reader horrified, trembling, understanding, praying, and triumphant."

Excerpt from WHEN SHE HOLLERS
by Cynthia Voigt

Lunch wasn't possible. Tish picked out the soup, and a box of milk, and ice cream to put on her spoon and not-eat in little nibbling bits. She sat with the usual - Chrissie, Angie, Daniella, Shantal, Jen and Judy, Megan, Maria, Tiffany. Lindsay and Crystal were both absent that day, too, along with Heather, but Tish didn't know why about them. The usual bunch of them had their usual end section of a long cafeteria table, and sat down in no particular order. Some days they all talked together, some days they broke up into separate conversations. They weren't really a clique, although sometimes it looked like they were.
