So when Princess Cyprina comes to hear here fortune and invites Cinnamon to live in her castle, Cinnamon dashes off to a new life. Handmaids bathe her, dress her in satin, and send her to a royal ball. But Cinnamon barely recognizes herself in the mirror and soon longs for the gypsy girl she left behind.

Excerpt from THE GYPSY PRINCESS
by Phoebe Gilman

There once was a wild gypsy girl who dreamed of being a princess. She lived in a gypsy caravan and her name was Cinnamon.

Cinnamon knew many things. She could read your fortune in a crystal ball. She knew where to find herbs in the forest and how to brew them into strange potions. She could speak to the wind and she knew how to dance with a bear.

But she wanted to dance with a prince.

In the evenings, after supper, she would sit by the open fire listening to her old auntie tell tales of magic and enchantment. Tales of mermaids and pirates, of dragons and princesses.

"I have loved this book and The Balloon Tree since my first glance at it. It was on my bookshelf and read at least 10 times a day or more! Even though this book is not at my grade level, it still teaches me more and more every time I read it. Phoebe Gilman has mixed life and fairy tale into making this book. And I can't say enough about the illustrations. They are absolutely stunning. And I know I will treasure this book and many more by Phoebe in the years to come."
