Introduction from SCHOLASTIC GUIDES: WRITING WITH STYLE by Sue Young
|
Writing with Style is about being the best you can be. Did you ever get a so-so grade on a paper that took you hours to write? What went wrong? Why didn't your work pay off?
Perhaps your time was not well s pent. Good writing is planned writing. There are stages to go through - from preparation to presentation. Style is the result of the four P's:
PLANNING where you will write, what form you will use, what research needs to be done in advance, which form of organisation is best for your project.
PRODUCING a paper that reflects good grammar, clear thoughts, and appropriate genre style.
POLISHING your work by checking grammar, punctuation, spelling, and word choice.
PRESENTING your finest effort with uniform organization, proper source notations, and an attractive look that invites others to read on with pleasure.
Writing with Style makes it possible to get a head start on developing your style and becoming the writer you want to be.
