They skidded to a stop at Matt's house. Leaving their bikes in a heap, they fled to the safety of Matt's secret treehouse. He pulled up the ladder and closed the door behind them.
"Do you thinkg Mr. Turkle followed us?" Jaime gasped.
Matt shook his head. "I don't see anyone out there." He pulled up an old apple box to sit on.
Jaime's eyes were shining. "We have to get back down to the basement," she said.
"I was afraid you'd say that." Matt rolled his eyes.
"Oh, Matt. There's a real mystery right in front of you! We have to solve it!" Jaime's eyes widened. "If Mr. Turkle is listening to that alien language, then maybe he's and alien!"
Matt looked at her doubtfully.
"Or maybe he's been hypnotized," said Jaime, wagging a finger at Matt. "They took him onto an alien spaceship and taught him how to speak their language."
"But why?" asked Matt.
Jaime thought about it. "They're trying to take over the school!" she exclaimed.
