| The philosophy behind Pan-Canadian Science Place |
|
Children are naturally curious about the world around them, and Pan-Canadian Science Place takes advantage of their eagerness to ask questions. In fact, as you will notice in the table of contents, we ask a lot of questions, too. We want to give students as many hands-on science experiences and opportunities to investigate as possible. All of the components of the Pan-Canadian Science Place work together to support you and your students in your explorations of the world around you. You don't need to worry about not knowing the answers to all of their questions. Together, you and your students will discover the answersand probably come up with even more questions! Pan-Canadian Science Place encourages students to construct meaning out of their own experienceit does not hand them the answers. We believe that interpreting and communicating their learning is as important to students' understanding as the explorations themselves. While engaging students, the lessons build on prior knowledge and lead from one lesson to another. Each lesson is built on the same foundations: activating prior knowledge and engaging students' interest; exploring a concept with open-ended or directed explorations and information; and applying what students have learned to their world. The Pan-Canadian Science Place student books, teacher's guides, and science equipment packs all work together to make science learning a fun and successful experience. |
