Karen's Leprechaun

by Ann M. Martin

Book Photo The director of the St. Patrick's Day parade tells Karen he is a leprechaun.

When we were all gathered around him, Mr. O'Casey whispered, "I am a leprechaun. A leprechaun is a real and true fairy."

Andrew's eyes opened wide and his mouth dropped open. "Is that like the tooth fairy?" he asked.

"Why, yes I suppose it is," said Mr. O'Casey.

He told us that he came from a long line of leprechauns who fixed the shoes of dancing fairies.

"Leprechauns keep pots of gold hidden away in a special place. To find the gold, you have to go all the way to the end of a rainbow," he whispered.

Then he asked us to close our eyes and count to ten. When we opened them again, he was gone!
